“A Century of Educational Service”: the new dossier of Héritage Sutton on the history of the John-Sleeth Community and Cultural Centre

Mandated by the Town of Sutton, the Héritage Sutton Historical Society has traced the history of the John-Sleeth Community and Cultural Centre building, which was successively occupied by the Anglophone school Sutton Academy and the Francophone school Ave Maria between 1886 and 1986.

Entitled A Century of Educational Service, the online file includes archival documents, photos and oral testimonies from Sutton citizens who attended one of the schools. About forty people were consulted and about twenty of them agreed to record a video testimony which was then transcribed. Numerous photos were also collected to testify of the evolution of the place.

This work of memory was realized thanks to the financial support of the Government of Quebec and the Town of Sutton.
