Call to join our Toponymy Committee!

Are you interested in history, the origins of street names and getting involved in municipal life? The Town of Sutton is looking for members of our community to participate in the work of the Toponymy Committee, in order to fill current vacancies.

Role of the Toponymy Committee

The main function of the Toponymy Committee, at the express request of the Town Council or the municipal administration, is to give its opinion on any question relating to the designation, modification, correction or replacement of existing place names in Sutton, for roads and streets as well as for municipal buildings and parks, and to make any other recommendation to the Town Council concerning toponymy for the Town.

The committee reports to the Town Council. It has no decision-making powers.

The committee meets as needed, as mandated by the Town.

Composition of the committee

The committee is composed of four (4) people chosen from among Sutton residents, who have submitted their application and who have training or knowledge in the fields of history, geography, culture, and land-use planning, or in related fields. Councillor Marc-André Blain is also a member of the committee.
