New truck with automated arm for bin collection

The Public Works and Fixed Assets Department has received its new truck with automated arm for the collection of garbage and recyclables. It will be on the road in early August.

This truck was ordered in March 2021 (résolution 2021-03-087). Safer, it will require, after the adaptation period, only one employee to operate the automated collection of garbage and recyclable materials, which will allow an obvious gain in productivity. However, it is very important that the bins are well placed so that the arm can maneuver.

How to place your bin properly?

With this new collection system, it is important to respect the following instructions:

  • The bin must be placed facing the street, with the wheels on the side of the house, as is already the case for the compost bins that are picked up by Matrec’s automated arm trucks;
  • Each bin must be at least 1 metre (3 feet) away from any other bin or obstacle for the automated arm to catch.

There will be a period of adjustment to help our citizens learn the right habits. After that, if the bin is not placed correctly or does not have the necessary clearance around it, it cannot be picked up.

A demonstration video has been shot to explain the necessary placement of the bin at the curb: please watch it, it will only take you 30 seconds!
