The Town of Sutton adopts its new NPO Recognition and Support Policy

On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, the Municipal Council adopted the new version of the Non-Profit Organization (NPO) Recognition and Support Policy. This adoption is part of the mandate given by the Municipal Council to the Leisure, Community Life and Culture (LVC) department in 2022, along with the adoption of financial contributions to the operation of organizations. The Policy’s revision was also included in the 2023-2027 action plan of the Town’s Family and Seniors Policy.

This document is the result of a collective reflection within the Town of Sutton’s administration and Municipal Council on the place to be given to its partnership with the Sutton community.

Evaluation of criteria according to guiding principles

The Town recognizes the importance and richness of the organizations working on its territory. They contribute to the quality of life of the population and to the development of our community. The Town wishes to collaborate with groups that share the guiding principles of the new NPO Recognition and Support Policy.

This Policy provides clear guidelines that establish transparent and equitable procedures by which municipal resources are distributed among recognized organizations, based on their ties to the Town and the evaluation of various indicators that the Municipal Council has deemed important.

These indicators are divided into eligibility and categorization criteria. The criteria apply the principles that guide the Town’s collaboration with recognized organizations.

Hard copies of the Policy will be available at Sutton Town Hall and at the Municipal and School Library.

Attention to all local and regional NPOs

As recognition statuses for NPOs have never been reviewed since their adoption, all currently recognized organizations will be contacted by the LVC department to invite them to resubmit a recognition application. Aware of the importance of the process, the Municipal Council wishes to assure recognized NPOs that they will receive appropriate support from the LVC department through personalized appointments.

The previous Policy did not allow for the recognition of regional organizations. It is now possible. These organizations are invited to submit their applications, and now have the possibility of being recognized if they meet the recognition criteria.

Application deadline: October 31, 2024

As mentioned at the Council meeting, NPOs will have until October 31, 2024 to apply for recognition in order to be eligible for financial support programs.
