Parking spaces removed on Principale Street

At the request of the Ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ), the Town of Sutton had to remove several parking spaces on Principale Street between Maple Street and Depot Street.

Specifically, seven spaces were removed on the west side, from the Bagel Shop to the CIBC, and five spaces on the east side, from Chocolaterie Belge Muriel to Taproom & Buvette À l’Abordage.

Our Main Street is, in effect, Route 139 and falls under the jurisdiction of the Government of Quebec. This is why the Ministry has the authority to decide on these withdrawals justified by the traffic density and the narrowness of the street, in order to allow vehicles, especially trucks, to make safer turns on Maple and Depot streets.

Currently, barriers have been placed on the west side of the street to make drivers aware of the new parking ban, as the other side has already been implemented.

The Town of Sutton is aware of the inconveniences caused by this new signage and is studying additional parking solutions that will allow for the replacement of the spaces thus lost. However, the Town reminds us that alternative municipal parking is always available for our visitors at the points P indicated on the map.
