Summary of the Council Meeting of July 5, 2021

The municipal council meeting was held on Monday, July 5th at the Saint-André church, in front of an audience for the first time in 15 months. It was recorded and posted on our YouTube channel, but Internet connection problems, combined with sound problems, caused the recording to be interrupted. We apologize for these inconveniences and are working to find solutions to remedy them in the future.

Summary of the Meeting highlights

  • The Mayor announced the relocation of the glass recycling container at the Source of Route 215. Read the news.
  • The Mayor announced that one of the two iconic elms on Jordan Road is unfortunately suffering from Dutch Elm Disease and is being considered for removal, but the Town is first awaiting the results of an expert report on the condition of both elms, which has been requested from a tree service company. A news will be released on this matter.
  • Council acknowledged the resignation of District 3 Councillor Patricia Lefèvre, effective June 30, 2021, and thanks her for her services.
  • Council adopted an amended by-law to standardize and lower the speed limits on all our roads and streets. Read the news.
  • Council adopted Borrowing By-law No. 311 concerning the replacement of a pumper truck and two tankers for a value of $1,619,663. Written requests for a referendum ballot must be received by July 23, 2021: see public notice.
  • Council adopted Borrowing By-law No. 312 concerning the replacement of a tractor and its equipment for a value of $413,651. Written requests for a referendum ballot must be received by July 23, 2021: see public notice.
  • Council approved the confirmation of Ms. Annick Theriault to the position of bookkeeper.
  • Council approved the hiring of Mr. Harry Pressoir as the second urbanism inspector.
  • Council adopted an allocation from the public works reserve for the purchase of additional granular materials and asphalt. Read the news.
  • Council authorized the signing of an agreement with Hydro-Quebec for the installation of two fast charging stations for electric vehicles in the parking lot of the post office, with the possibility of two more.
  • The council granted a financial contribution of $8,000 to the organization Plein air Sutton.
  • Council took note of the end of Karine Fortin’s mandate, who has been employed by the Town for a year and a half as an assistant in the Recreation, Community Life and Culture Department; Karine is leaving for the Town of Granby and we thank her for her excellent work.
  • The council confirmed the hiring of two cadets in police technique who will be present on our territory during the summer period on the basis of 4 days per week.
