Waste Management

The Town of Sutton cares deeply about the environment and is committed to sound management of its waste. In our ongoing effort to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, the Town of Sutton, in partnership with the Brome-Missisquoi MRC, provides its citizens and businesses with various recycling services.

List recyclable materials

To dispose of household garbage and recyclable materials, place them by the side of the road before 7 a.m., the wheels towards the house and at least two feet away from any other object. Wheeled bins must be removed on the same day of the collection.

Collection of large domestic waste (bulky items)

There are two collections of large domestic waste scheduled per sector in the municipal collection calendar. To dispose of your large items, at the dates indicated, place them by the side of the road; the day before the collection or before 7 a.m. on the collection day. There will be a maximum of five (5) items permitted per address. Some items are not accepted, please consult the list of refused materials before you dispose of your large items. (lien de la liste)

No bulky items will be picked up outside of the dates mentioned in the collection calendar. Please note that construction materials, electronics appliances, aggregates, recyclable materials, tires, and household hazardous waste must be brought to the Regional Ecocentre in Cowansville’s situated at 2500, rang St-Joseph. Construction materials

Construction materials must be taken to the Brome-Missisquoi solid waste landfill site (R.I.E.D.S.B.M.). Fees are charged based on weight. Information: 450 263-2351

Household hazardous waste (HHW)

HHW consists of products used at home that can be toxic to you or the environment. These waste materials must not go into your garbage or recycling.

You can get rid of them in an environmentally friendly way by bringing them to the landfill. This service is free for residents of the Brome-Missisquoi MRC, provided you can show two pieces of identification that indicate your place of residence. The HHW will be taken care of in a safe manner and redirected to organizations committed to recycling it.

Collection of commercial waste

Each business is classified by the volume of garbage and recycling it produces during the year. The rate is then determined in accordance with the taxation by-law.
