Waste Management

The Town of Sutton cares deeply about the environment and is committed to sound management of its waste. In its ongoing effort to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, the Town of Sutton, in partnership with the Brome-Missisquoi MRC, provides its citizens and businesses with various recycling services.

Collection instructions

Please pay attention to the placement of your bins: please place them at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the morning of the collection, with the wheels facing the property and a minimum of 2 feet from any other object. Wheeled bins must be removed on the day of collection.

In winter

It is your responsibility to properly remove the snow and ice from your bins or containers to ensure they are collected by our garbage collectors. Remind your snow removal service not to push or blow snow on your bins  or containers.

During a winter storm, it is strongly recommended that you place your wheeled bins at the curb on the morning of your collection. This will reduce the risk of your bins being knocked over by our snow removal crews, avoid breakage and, most importantly, ensure the collection of your materials

Collection of large household garbage (bulky items)

There are two collections of large household garbage scheduled per sector in the municipal collection calendar. To dispose of your large items, at the date indicated in your sector, place them by the side of the road the day before the collection or before 7 a.m. on the collection day. There will be a maximum of five (5) items permitted per address. Some items are not accepted: please consult the list of refused materials before you dispose of your large items.

No bulky items will be picked up outside of the dates mentioned in the collection calendar. It is therefore not allowed to leave them on the side of the road. Please note that construction materials, electronics appliances, aggregates, recyclable materials, tires, and household hazardous waste must be brought to the Regional Ecocentre in Cowansville situated at 2500, rang St-Joseph (Check details and opening hours).

Collection of commercial waste and recyclable material

Each business is classified by the volume of garbage and recycling it produces during the year. The rate is then determined in accordance with the taxation by-law.
