Day camp and pool activities are now closed for the 2024 season!

The Town of Sutton would like to warmly thank the two teams of counselors and lifeguards who worked at the day camp and the municipal pool all summer long!

Thanks to these great teams, and under the guidance of the Recreation, Community Life and Culture Department, we were able to welcome a total of 100 children to the day camp and no fewer than 109 children and 70 adults to aquatic activities.

A very active day camp

The day camp, held at the Sutton School this summer due to the construction work on Western Street, officially came to an end on Friday, August 16. Thanks to a fully staffed team consisting of a coordinator, a head counselor, four counselors and three assistant counselors, the day camp was able to open 5 days a week this year and welcome 28 more children than in summer 2023.

Every week, the kids had a schedule full of adventures: nature outings, magic shows, visit to the zoo, water slides, obstacle course – there was something for everyone! The summer ended with a big party on Thursday, August 15, including lots of festive activities, hotdogs and corn.

A busy swimming pool

The aquatic team was also fully staffed this summer: a coordinator, a head lifeguard, six lifeguards (three of whom are also aquatic instructors), two assistant lifeguards and an aquafitness instructor took care of offering aquatic courses and supervising the pool.

Thanks to them, intensive courses for children were back on the schedule and the pool was open 7 days a week. What’s more, their motivation made it possible to extend the pool’s opening hours to Saturday, August 24, Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1!

Committed to safe swimming, the team organized a full schedule for National Drowning Prevention Week, including lifesaving demonstrations, day camp activities and information booths. The Lifeguard for a Day activity was also a great success this year, with 7 participants – the future generation!

In addition, a lifeguard training program was introduced this year and continues this fall, with the Standard First Aid course being offered free of charge on September 14 and 15.

A big thank you

We congratulate and thank each and every one of them for their commitment, determination and enthusiasm! Special thanks also to our two coordinators, Grenadine for the day camp and Sara for the aquatic activities: they carried out their mission and the season’s activities with professionalism and dedication.

We would also like to thank the children, parents and participants in general for their confidence and their great participation!

To constantly improve our services, we invite you to send us your suggestions and comments by e-mail to agloisirs.lvc@sutton.ca.

We look forward to seeing you next year and wish you a great end of summer!
