Dog owners: pick up after your dog!

Despite our repeated requests and justified complaints from citizens, we have noticed that many dog owners don’t pick up after their dogs when they walk them in public spaces, whether on the bike path, on the street or in our parks. Recently, children at the Sutton School even had the unpleasant surprise of stepping in dog poop on their playground: it is unacceptable!

A civic gesture

Nobody wants to step in dog poop, not even their owners. That is why we are appealing to owners to respect the public space and use the bags provided for this purpose. We would like to thank those owners who do so conscientiously.

Compulsory excrement bags

We remind you that Article 35 of By-law number 226 concerning animals stipulates that it is MANDATORY to pick up your pet’s faeces in parks, on public roads and on private property.

Owners must therefore carry bags at all times to collect excrement. In addition, the Town has placed free biodegradable bag dispensers at several points along the bike path, as well as garbage cans nearby: please use them!

Anyone contravening this by-law is liable to a fine of $200 for the first offence and $400 for the second (article 57 of the same by-law).
