Fire Prevention Week October 3-9, 2021

Fire Prevention Week, from October 3 to 9, reminds us of the importance of adopting safe measures at home. On this occasion, we wish to inform you that our firefighters will be in action to carry out evacuation and awareness practices with the population.

We ask that you verify and ensure that you have working smoke alarms and replace them if they are more than 10 years old. If you need help or have any questions, we invite you to make an appointment with our firefighters at 450 538-2290: they will answer all your questions and help you if necessary in this important process.

Fire Prevention Week 2021 is held under the theme “The first person responsible is you!”

Knowing that 13 homes a day are damaged by fire and that half of these are related to distraction or human error, the Department of Public Safety, in partnership with the fire safety services, would like to remind us of some valuable advice to anchor good practices in our habits:

  • Check your smoke alarms at least twice a year, when the time changes. There should be one on each floor, including the basement: it’s the only way to be notified in time in case of fire!
  • Prepare a family escape plan: for each room, identify two accessible exits, such as a door and a window. The hallways leading to the designated exits should always be kept clear and the assembly point outside should be known to all family members. Don’t wait for a tragedy to occur before you plan to evacuate your home!

Have a great week!
