Have you seen the current exhibition at the Sutton Museum of Communications and History?

Don’t miss the Sutton Museum of Communications and History‘s (SMCH) summer exhibition, entitled “Catastrophe ! Êtes-vous prêts ?” (Catastrophe! Are you ready?), Inspired by the increasingly frequent and significant climatic disruptions we’ve been experiencing in recent years, this exhibition aims to highlight how we can all, individually and collectively, better prepare for them.

From June 15 to October 14, 2024

Whether we like it or not, whether we think their origin is natural or manmade, the fact remains the same: we have to be ready to face them and we have to adapt. A prolonged power outage, a heavy snowstorm that isolates communities or a flood that forces the evacuation of homes are all circumstances that disrupt daily life. Sutton has had a front-row seat to this new reality in recent years.

With this summer’s exhibition, the SMCH aims to fulfill its role as a transmitter of knowledge, as well as its social engagement. A number of disasters that have occurred in Sutton since the 19th century will be presented, including the major fire of 1898. You’ll discover how citizens worked together to control and extinguish the fire.

Visitors will then learn how to prepare for various eventualities:

  • what can I do to better prepare my family for such disasters?
  • what should a 72-hour emergency kit contain?

The other aim of this exhibition is to enable people to learn more about emergency measures: how are they implemented? Who does what during similar episodes? What are the responsibilities of the Municipality, of the Public Safety Department, of the residents?

Come and visit the exhibition on display all summer long!
