Sutton 2023 septic tank emptying schedule

Sutton residents can now consult the Town’s website for a list of septic tank emptying dates and addresses scheduled between July 24 and October 27, 2023. Each residence will be notified by mail of the date on which the Town’s appointed contractor, Beauregard Environnement Ltée, will be on site.

Emptying will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. You don’t have to pay the contractor directly, as this service is billed directly to your tax bill. The Town of Sutton has instituted a program of systematic emptying of septic tanks every two years for permanent and secondary residences, in order to adequately protect public health and the environment, and in compliance with the Règlement sur l’évacuation et le traitement des eaux usées des résidences isolées (Q-2, R.22).

We would like to remind you of the instructions to be followed to ensure the smooth running of this program:

  • Remove the two (2) covers from the septic tank, leaving a free space at least 15 cm (6 inches) wider and deeper than the cover. Remove any screws holding the plastic covers in place. You don’t have to lift the lids; the contractor will open and close them;
Clear lid
  • Clearly identify the location of the septic system with a stake or marker to make it easier to locate;
  • If you have a Bionest system with a pump, the pump must be turned off before emptying. A sign should be left near the tank to indicate that the pump is de-energized;
  • For septic systems equipped with a prefilter, the contractor can clean it during emptying if you leave a garden hose nearby;
  • The area around the septic tank must be free of all obstacles: ornaments, toys, etc.
  • The site must be safe and accessible (dog tied, fence unlocked, etc.). The building number must be visible from the public thoroughfare.
  • A service area to receive the vacuum truck must be located 40 metres (131 feet) or less from the septic installation, and have a minimum clearance to allow the truck to pass. In some cases, a road may be used as a service area. If more than 100 feet (30 metres) of hose are required, please contact the contractor.

ATTENTION: It is your obligation to remove the pit lids before the date indicated by the contractor. A $100 fee will be charged by the Town, via the contractor, if the truck has to return a second time for emptying.

Thank you for your cooperation!
