Reminder – Start of the 27th Journées de la culture in Sutton

The Town of Sutton, will be animated by various cultural activities set up especially for the Journées de la culture 2023 which will take place from September 29 to October 1.

This year, the Journées de la culture celebrate what has been the essence of the event for 27 years: the community. For the occasion, a number of Suttonnais organizations are inviting our community to come together to promote our identity, and to gather around an event to share art, heritage and culture.

Arts Sutton Art Center

SELF-PORTRAIT/SELFIES

Make way for a collective creation, a first for Sutton! The Centre d’art Sutton invites you to attend the presentation of a digital artwork created by participants in the Self-portrait/Selfies mediation project. This video projection, composed of photos, three-dimensional works and self-portraits created by budding artists aged between 10 and 29, is presented on the exterior façade of the John-Sleeth Community and Cultural Centre.

The screening will be repeated every evening from dusk onwards.

OPEN DOORS

The École d’art de Sutton is organizing an open house, a unique opportunity to bring together its various collaborators and partners, as well as local artists and craftspeople, to celebrate the arts, encourage the institution’s mission and discuss the opportunities that are shaping our future. It’s a weekend rich in discussion, surprises and knowledge-sharing. On the menu: Le Labo d’Art, exhibitions of architecture, horticulture and children’s creations. Folk music, an art market, an antique store, a refreshment bar and a gourmet corner will be available to visitors.

Sutton Municipal and School Library

ITALIC CALLIGRAPHY WORKSHOP WITH JEAN SAUCIER

In this workshop, you’ll be introduced to the history and particularities of italic calligraphy. Mr. Saucier will present the various tools to be used (nibs, inks, paper, etc.) and teach participants the techniques involved in this type of writing, which you can then put into practice.

Héritage Sutton Historical Society

LAUNCH OF THE “SUTTON, BORDER TOWN” VIRTUAL EXHIBITION

The Héritage Sutton historical society invites you to the launch of the virtual exhibition “Sutton, Border Town”. The exhibit focuses on Sutton’s history as it relates to its unique location near the U.S. border. The exhibition, which was made possible with the financial assistance of Heritage Canada, will soon be available on the Digital Museums Canada website.
