A bicycle repair station donated to the Town of Sutton

The Lair family has generously donated a bicycle repair station to the municipality, which has been installed in the Veterans Park, across from the Olivet Church on Maple Street. Local and visiting cyclists can now take advantage of self-serve repair tools and an air pump.

The station in memory of Frederic Lair.
Here his parents, Rémi and Agathe, his son Mathieu and his brother Daniel.

The station was donated by the family in memory of Frederic Lair, who passed away this year at the age of 51. “Frédéric was an avid cyclist who rode his bike all year round and meticulously maintained his dozen bikes at home,” explains his brother Stéphane. “In addition to his family, he had two passions: cycling and music. He was a classically trained military musician with the Canadian Armed Forces where he played trombone in the Winnipeg and Quebec City bands.

“His colleagues at the Canadian Forces Logistics Training Centre in Barrie, Ontario, where he was most recently based, even contributed financially to this acquisition,” says Daniel, his other brother. We wanted to honour his love of cycling and his attachment to Sutton where our parents live and where we spent a lot of time as a family.

Why a bicycle maintenance station?

Mathieu, Frédéric’s son, tells us: “He used to go on a lot of bike trips and, each time, he would stop to enjoy the stations for bike maintenance and marvel at their beauty and usefulness. He felt that this was missing in Sutton, which is known as a cycling destination. He was a strong advocate for cycling, as much for the physical virtues as for the freedom that cycling provides.”

“I go ride like the wind,” Frederic would say to his English-speaking wife Sheila before each bike ride. His passion and his desire to leave a positive trace of his passage will be well and truly honoured, for the greater benefit of our cyclists.

The Town of Sutton warmly thanks the Lair family for their generosity and hopes that this repair stop will be usefully appreciated.
