A Press Release from the MRC Brome-Missisquoi

LET’S STOP COVID-19 SO WE CAN CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS
AN EXTRA EFFORT TO GET OUT OF THE RED

Cowansville,« What a relief it would be to no longer be in the red zone for the holiday season”. This is the wish that the MRC prefect, Patrick Melchior expressed to the Brome-Missisquoi population during a press briefing today. The prefect, together with Dr Alain Poirier, director at la Santé publique de l’Estrie, along with representatives of the English and French school boards and along with several mayors, urged the population to increase their efforts in the next few weeks to flatten this new spike of positive Covid-19 results.

Health network put to the test, screening and following instructions
“For the Brome-Missisquoi region, the situation is not alarming; however we have noticed, in the last few weeks, an increase in the number of cases and two outbreaks, including one at the BMP Hospital in Cowansville. If you have symptoms, consult the symptom self-assessment tool on Quebec.ca to know if you should go to a testing center”, added Doctor Alain Poirier, who also noted that people are less compliant with this last instruction.

Let’s flatten the curve to celebrate the holidays together
The following mayors: Sylvie Beauregard (Cowansville), Louis Villeneuve ( Bromont) and Richard Burcombe (Lac-Brome) encouraged their citizens to continue to respect the sanitary measures in place: including social distancing, wearing a mask, and frequent handwashing. Despite people’s weariness, these measures are how we might see the light at the end of the tunnel in time for Christmas.

Let’s help young people and parents stay on course for their educational success
Éric Racine, general manager at the C.S.S. Val-des-Cerfs and Michael Murray, president of the C.S. Eastern Townships, appealed to and encouraged students to maintain their motivation in school and asked parents to continue to encourage their children in their academic learning.

A call to businesses to maintain a safe work environment
Sylvie Beauregard, the president of the CLD de Brome-Missisquoi, also asked businesses to continue to be diligent in insuring safe working environments. “Up to now, it’s been going well in our work environments, we all must continue to apply the sanitary measures to maintain our jobs and safeguard our regional economy”, added Ms. Beauregard.
