Temporary Closure of Pleasant Street Spring

On Tuesday, September 7, the Town had to close access to the public spring located on Pleasant Street (Route 215) until further notice. Indeed, the weekly water analyses performed by our water technician, Guy Gauthier, revealed, after two consecutive tests, a level of total coliforms exceeding the permitted standards.

According to the Ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques (MDDELCC), water is declared non potable if the presence of total coliforms is detected more than twice in a period of 30 consecutive days. If a water is contaminated by the presence of fecal coliforms, it is immediately declared non-drinking. Remember that fecal coliforms are of human origin, while total coliforms are of non-human origin.

It should also be noted that the spring on Route 215 is not directly connected to the water table that feeds the main well from which the town’s drinking water is drawn, which is also constantly tested.

Two new tests are planned for this week and we will inform our citizens as soon as the source is accessible again. Thank you for your understanding.
