The Fête nationale du Québec in Sutton, a great success in the rain!

Despite the weather, many of you turned out for our Fête nationale du Québec in Sutton, whose theme this year was “Entrez dans la danse”! Nearly 800 people turned out all day long at Parc Goyette-Hill to take part in the various activities on offer during this festive day.

The water games and the municipal swimming pool were busy for most of the afternoon, despite the heavy rain at the time. Under the gazebo, circus artist Damkko entertained some forty children and parents, who enjoyed manipulating flower sticks, Chinese plates and juggling balls. And our two expert make-up artists created real works of art on the faces of children and even adults who, all smiles, proudly strolled through the park. Visitors could dine at Resto Route 139, which offered a special menu for the occasion, or quench their thirst with beers from Auberge Sutton Brouërie and L’Abordage, or enjoy a margarita from GATO and white or red wine from Domaine Bresee vineyards.

The evening began at 5 p.m. with the ceremonial part of the celebrations hosted by Myriam Trinh-Quang, in the presence of Councillors Marie-Josée Auclair, Thérèse Leclerc and Lynda Graham, and Councillor Alan Pavilanis. The ceremony kicked off with the raising of the flag by Town of Sutton General Manager Pascal Smith, before Councillor Marie-José Auclair delivered the official speech in place of Mayor Robert Benoît, who was absent due to COVID 19.

The musical portion of the evening was then launched by Vanessa Lauzon, director of Sutton Encore, who introduced the artists: opening act was the Sutton choir Vox Manifesta, followed by Tom Chicoine and, in the finale, the eagerly awaited Mon Doux Saigneur. Each performance was excellent, and the audience was as enthusiastic as they were numerous in applauding them. Traditional fireworks then lit up the Sutton sky, much to the delight of spectators. To round off the evening, DJ Fred le Disco Brasseur gave those in attendance plenty of time to get into the swing of things!

Thank you!

This year, the guests of honor were you, the people who, despite the changeable weather, came to dance, sing and have fun in Goyette-Hill Park, with family and friends. Thank you for coming out to celebrate this joyous holiday that brings our community together!
