The Poem Cocoon needs you!

Have you heard of the Poem Cocoon? This beautiful cultural mediation project is an artistic initiative of Suttonnais writer Marie Clark. It is subsidized by the CIUSS de l’Estrie – CHUS and supported by the community and cultural organizations D’Arts et de rêves, the Centre d’action bénévole (CAB) de Sutton, the Parc d’environnement naturel de Sutton (PENS) as well as the Town of Sutton Recreation, Community Life and Culture Department.

By creating a collective work of art, the Poem Cocoon aims to contribute to the restoration of social links in our community, which, post-COVID, needs to do some good. Led by Ms. Clark, the project proposes to create an unusual installation in the D’Arts et de rêve cultural park in the village of Sutton: a living structure made of willow branches will host poems written by Suttonnais of all ages.

The first part of the mediation project consists of free introductory poetry workshops led by writer Marie Clark and offered to different groups of residents, elementary school children, teenagers, adults and seniors. Participants will then be invited to learn about ceramics at Café-Atelier Amaranthe, located at 35 Principale Street South. They will prepare a clay plaque on which they will transcribe their short poem created in the writing workshop. Once baked, these personalized plaques in various shapes and colors will be hung in the Poem Cocoon which will be inaugurated in May.

Would you like to participate in the creative workshops or volunteer your time to help set up the poem cocoon? Contact the project organizers by email at [email protected] or through the project’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/marieclarkecrivaine.
