The Town of Sutton Appoints New Director General

Sutton, December 16, 2020 — The Town of Sutton is pleased to announce the appointment of Me Pascal Smith as the municipality’s new Director General. His appointment was formalized at the extraordinary meeting of the municipal council of December 16, 2020. Mr. Smith will take up his duties on January 6, 2021.

In addition to having been director general and secretary-treasurer of the municipalities of Sainte-Madeleine and of Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu as well as municipal councillor for Saint-Marc-sur-Richelieu for five years, Me Smith has been a member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec since 2008. The rigorous recruitment process attracted some forty applications in total. Throughout the process, the selection committee benefited from the professional support of the UMQ, as well as that of Mrs. Pauline Quinlan, former mayoress of Bromont, who was invited to participate in the final interviews to ensure an external point of view.

“It was the combination of his years of experience, along with his knowledge of the workings of the municipal world, his keen political sense and excellent leadership and management skills, which made Mr. Smith the candidate of choice for the post of director general of the Town. On behalf of the council and the employees, I would like to welcome Mr. Smith to our municipality. The council has full confidence in his ability to meet the challenges that await him”, explained Michel Lafrance, Mayor of the Town of Sutton.

Mr. Smith will succeed Mr. Pierre Largy who left his post on November 13th. Since that date, the interim has been assumed by Mr. Louis Pilon, Director of Special Projects. The members of the board would like to thank Mr. Pilon for ensuring the smooth running of the administration during this transition period.
