Warning of fraudulent solicitation by false representatives of the company Transition Énergétique Québec
The Sûreté du Québec wishes to warn the public: several citizens have reported that false representatives of the company Transition Énergétique Québec are currently operating in the Brome-Missisquoi MRC.
According to the information gathered, the modus operandi of these fake representatives is quite simply door-to-door solicitation. Sometimes they present themselves with a false identity card (TEQ: Transition Énergétique Québec), sometimes not. They say they work for Transition Énergétique Québec and are hired as subcontractors by the Town. They ask the homeowner(s) to visit the interior and/or view the exterior configuration of the residence. If they refuse, they claim that the Town will “increase their taxes”, which is a lie.
Following this incident, the Sureté du Québec contacted Transition Énergétique – Gouvernement du Québec directly, and they were categorical: NO PHONE SOLICITATION OR DOOR-TO-DOOR SALES WERE MADE BY THEM.
Fraudulent telephone or door-to-door solicitations: be careful!
- Don’t let strangers into your home.
- Ask questions.
- Demand written proof from the company and customer references.
- Look up the company’s phone number on the Internet and check with them that the sales rep works for them.
